Interviews
White House Band
July 1, 2011 | Drew Bartlett

AltRockLive recently interviewed David E Beats of the White House Band. In this interview, David talks about everything from how the White House Band started and the music writing process to good and bad times. We hope you enjoy the interview!
AltRockLive: Describe your band in three words.
David: Loud, Captivating, Energetic
AltRockLive: How did everyone meet, and how did you guys all get started in music?
David:The White House Band has one official member, and thats me, David E Beats, I just audition and hire other band members as I see fit. I got started with music by hearing Jay-Z's The Blueprint for the first time, and that plus my history in rock music, I started the band!
AltRockLive: What is the process you usually go through when writing songs? What inspires you?
David: Usually it starts with an idea, either a lyric or a riff. Then I just kinda put my brain on autopilot from there. I try not to overthink, thats always been my issue. Now I just start off with something cool and build from there.
AltRockLive: What was the hardest time you had to go through as a band?
David: When I had to make the decision to keep the band together or progress in my career. I thought that was a dumb thing to have to decide, since the point of being in a band is making moves forward. So I dropped the obstacles and moved forward. I had to realize not everyone understands my vision or wants to expand beyond their current circumstances. Oh well!
AltRockLive: Are you working on any new material? How does it compare to your older material?
David: Working on a new album right now actually. Just getting ideas together and working on demos of songs. It'll be a better mix of hip hop and rock that I'm already doing, except much better!
AltRockLive: Who are your biggest influences, musically and in general?
David: Everyone. People think I'm crazy when I say that. But yea, everyone.
AltRockLive: If you could take a vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go and what would you do?
David: Right now it'd be Clearwater/Tampa Bay, FL. Thinking about buying a condo on the beach out there to relax in the winter.
AltRockLive: What are your favorite things to do when you're not playing music?
David: Watch anime, smoke some weed, drink beer, and enjoy my life!
AltRockLive: What is your favorite city to play in?
David: Right now its Austin, and sometimes DC. I just like the vibe in both areas!
AltRockLive: What are some of the funniest/most memorable moments you've had together as a band?
David: I remember when the first van broke down on the highway and we had to push our van on the highway for a few miles. Sucked hard...
AltRockLive: What are your favorite foods on the road?
David: Trying to stay healthy, but when I'm in DC i have to try the DC steak and cheese subs. When in NYC its a nice salad or chicken sandwich. When I'm in TX its tacos, tacos, tacos!!!
AltRockLive: Any pets on the road?
David: Nope!
