AltRockLive recently had the chance to catch up with Steve Choi of the RX Bandits. The band is currently on their last and final "Farewell Tour". We really enjoyed talking with Steve and hope you enjoy the interview as well!
AltRockLive: What made you all decide to make this the last tour?
Steve: I think for now it's, you know, a lot of us have families now with children and we've been spending the better part of the last 10 years on tour with RX Bandits pretty much going full time and working hard. Right now due to individual circumstances this just seems like the right time for focus more on our separate endeavors and our lives. We just want to be in control of it before we lost our passion or something like that. So we just wanted to do it on our own terms and that's what this is all about.
AltRockLive: When do you guys leave for the tour?
Steve: Our first show is this Sunday (June 26th), in Phoenix, Arizona.
AltRockLive: How will the tour be traveling?
Steve: We'll be traveling the south. So we'll be going east from Phoenix and doing a big counter-clockwise loop around the country.
AltRockLive: Do any of you have plans to make music in the future, if so what?
Steve: Yeah, I'm pretty sure we all do you know? I think I'll let everybody kind of divulge that information on their own as they feel accordingly. But, as far as me, I do a lot of producing and composing on the side. So I already have some projects lined up for the fall and I'll be jumping into those immediately afterwards.
AltRockLive: What instruments do you personally play?
Steve: I play guitar, keyboard, vocals, and certain times on stage I'll play the drums.
AltRockLive: Of all the instruments you play, which would you say is your favorite?
Steve: Ahh, whenever I'm playing one thing I always miss the other. So, you know I love playing them all. I'm not particularly amazing at one, they're all just more tools to use in songwriting. The more instruments you're familiar with.
AltRockLive: What in particular inspired you to take the career choice in music?
Steve:It's always been a passion of mine from an early age and I knew that it's what I wanted to do with my life.
AltRockLive: Where did the name Rx Bandits come from?
Steve: It was a name they thought of in high school. Just a name they came up with in high school.
AltRockLive: How did The Rx bandits begin?
Steve: That's a pretty long, complex story because there's been so many generations of the band. But, it started with friends meeting in high school and that was the very, very, beginning and we'll leave that story at that for right now.
AltRockLive: Where are you most looking forward to touring on this last tour?
Steve: Pretty much every city. We love all of our fans you know. East coast is always really good to us, Florida is always really good to us, Chicago's fun. Looking forward to the whole thing!
AltRockLive: On tour or in general, what's your favorite song to play?
Steve: Usually it's always changing. So it's hard to say. There's always gonna be different songs at different times. So I'm sure over the course of all these years every song has been a favorite at some point.
AltRockLive: At this particular time do you have a favorite?
Steve: Ha! Nah, not right now we've just been rehearsing everyday and stuff like that, so.
